At last the definitive guide to green spirituality – I love it!

Green spirituality is much more than spirituality and nature. It is a paradigm shift, seeing the world through new eyes and making spirituality relevant to today’s fast changing world. Green spirituality draws from many spiritual traditions as well as science. For instance, it covers eco-justice, social-justice, honouring the shadow, creativity, economics, education and much, much more.

The book is a set of 31 chapters, each chapter written by a contributor. This approach is green spirit in itself, offering diversity to make a unique whole. No one person or outlook contains all of the answers. Some of the contributors to the book may be familiar names; examples include Matthew Fox, Brian Swimme, Satish Kumar, Emma Restall Orr, David Korten and Neil Douglas-Klotz.

From an understanding of our world and our place in it, to understanding ourselves, then looking through the lens of different spiritual traditions and finally to practical outworking – the book is coherent and flowing.

The book has helped me, yet again, to celebrate my place in this awesome, beautiful world.

  2. G. Polley says:

To paraphrase something Thich Nhat Hanh once said, “Everything inter-is.”

Everything in nature is interconnected, including humans. We are a part of nature, not separate from it, set apart from and above it to do with it what we will. Like every other species, we are deeply embedded in nature and dependent on it for our sustenance and our future. Compared with the prevailing Christian religious, political and economic traditions, this is a radical shift. It is also a tremendously important one.

For the past three decades there has been a growing, world wide “green” movement to counter this process by reconnecting with the planet and with each other. GreenSpirit, a movement begun in the UK, is one such movement. As its editor Marian Van Eyk McCain says in the Introduction, “GreenSpirit brings together the rigor of science, the creativity of artistic expression, the passion of social action and the core wisdom that exists within the spiritual traditions of all ages.”

This book is a treasure trove of resources for anyone with an interest in creating a more joyous and sustainable future and a deeper understanding of spirituality. I highly recommend it.
